Release Into Contact

Somatic Movement patterns and pathways of release teach the body to be soft, engaged and agile. You don’t have to be a professional dancer or acrobat to be supple, fluid and fly. In this class, I will guide you to find your own movement and integrate new ways that will be the base for making contact with others. From communicating with embodied consent to the skills of landing, yielding, bouncing and flying, this day-long workshop will cover many territories. We will build a strong foundation to advanced skills with a lot of play. I will introduce contact skills and improvisation scores so that you can create fulfilling, interesting and fun dances and be ready to jam.

Bio:

In her teaching, Ilka is focusing on effortless, playful movement, body-mind consciousness, and sense opening, luscious dances. Ilka has been teaching and performing CI, choreography and Improvisation for the past 25 years. She was born and raised in Budapest, Hungary and after falling in love with CI and being part of building the Budapest CI scene, she traveled around the world learning and teaching. In 2003 she landed in San Francisco where she studied Somatic Movement Therapy, Bodywork and Authentic Movement extensively. Her most influential teachers and long-time collaborators include: Eszter Gal, Nita Little, Scott Wells, Martin Keogh, Leilani Weis, Brenton Cheng and Vitali Kononov among many. Ilka’s most recent endeavors have been to be a mother, a doula and student midwife. Her lifelong love of dance and bodies keep her moving and she is ever inspired to teach.

Energy Exchange

There are a few tiers with sliding scale prices. Please choose according to your income status. If you can pay the higher price it allows us to offer lower prices to those who need it. We are offering 3 work trade/ Bipoc slots in exchange for working the door and help with social media. Please send an email to sign up for those.
